The discussion I had with friends about German articles (bestimmte, unbestimmte, & keine Artikel) and the adjective endings (nominativ, dativ, akkusativ, & genitiv) reminds me of how a theme could be endlessly "varied" by Bach. Perhaps the German language had in some way influenced Bach's artistry in transforming a subject.
